Thursday July 17th, Battle of Galveston Tour
The Battle of Galveston Tour is a fascinating journey into the past. This tour brings to life the most important military event in Galveston’s history, which took place during the early morning hours of January 1, 1863. Followed by Dinner and a tour of the Cemetery.
Friday July 18, Battle of San Jacinto Tour
The Battle of San Jacinto Tour takes you to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, which includes the location of the Battle of San Jacinto and the museum ship USS Texas.
Dick Dowling Grave Richard William Dowling, also known as “Dick” Dowling, was an Irish-born artillery officer of the Confederate States Army who achieved distinction as commander at the battle of Sabine Pass. He is buried at St. Vincent’s Catholic Cemetery, the oldest Catholic cemetery in Houston. Dowling’s promising future was cut short by a yellow fever epidemic which devastated Houston in the late summer of 1867, and he died on 23 September 1867.
Friday July 19, Ladies Tour Galveston – Moody Mansion
The Ladies Tour to Galveston is a unique experience that provides an in-depth look at the women that helped shape the city of Galveston. This two-hour walking tour takes you through the cobblestone streets and historic landmarks, revealing the often-overlooked heroines who shaped the island’s destiny.
The Moody Mansion, also known as the Willis-Moody Mansion, is a historic residential building in Galveston, Texas located at 2618 Broadway Street. The thirty-one room Romanesque mansion was completed in 1895. Today, guests visit 20 rooms on a tour that depicts the home life of the Moody family, which built one of the nation’s great financial empires.
